“laro na tayo – let’s play” is commissioned by the City of Vancouver Cultural Services through their Public Art Program. The project is a performance, temporary installation and social engagement that invites participation.

“laro na tayo” means “let’s play” in Tagalog and introduces “sipa”, a pre-colonial game played in the Philippines. Held at various outdoor locations/parklets around Vancouver, the project channels the nomadic and temporary as a post-colonial strategy referencing the Filipino-Canadian experience. “laro na tayo – let’s play” confronts the complexities of migration, colonization, settlement and multi-culturalism through the didactics of a childhood game and the history it represents.
