Analog is an exhibition of new work by Jane Grocott, Connor Skillen and Paige Quinn at August Studios. Large oil paintings are interrupted by smaller explorations to form a collection of distinct yet interconnected pictures. These three artists have been working alongside one other in the same studio building in Vancouver for exactly two years, absorbing similar influences from their mutual surroundings yet taking divergent paths in their work. Though their practices run independently paralleled, moments of crossover—by way of impromptu critiques of each other’s work and quick life updates as one artist arrives to begin painting and another leaves—are revealed on the surfaces of each canvas. These fleeting encounters influence the trajectory of each painting and initiate a framework of conversation between the works.
