Still/Life is a thought-provoking new exhibition curated by Barbara Bryn Klare, an artist and curator from Athens, Ohio. Drawing from a recent call for entry, Klare has created an innovative and intimate show by pairing works from different artists into nine dynamic duos. The twist? Artists will only discover their partners when the exhibition opens, adding an element of surprise and curiosity to this unique event.

Inspired by the historical concept of “still life,” Klare reinterprets the genre through the lens of the human figure. In her curatorial statement, she notes:

“The concept of ‘still life’ has long been a cornerstone in art history, arranging commonplace objects—fruit, flowers, drapery—to evoke contemplation and themes of fragility or mortality. In STILL/LIFE, the figure is subject, object, and vessel for these everyday yet universal stories. The artists featured reveal layers of meaning hidden in the mundane, urging us to see beyond the surface to connect with subtle energies that animate us and the world around us. We are still and alive: we are still life.”

This exhibition serves as a meditation on the body as both art and storyteller, inviting viewers to reflect on the subtle forces that shape our shared existence.
