Event Details

With soapstone carvings and drawings, Inuvialuk artist, Kablusiak explores the notion of cultural displacement in the place you call home. Kablusiak shows the disconnect that can exist between where people are and where they feel they belong.

While soapstone is a medium that’s become closely associated with Inuit art, here it’s used to show the personal items found around the home like mouthwash, cigarettes, and lipstick. It’s a fascinating melding of the traditions of the past and the reality of the present.
