Taking place November 14-17, the visual arts, design and crafts festival is a free event featuring over 500 artists, varying from new and emerging voices to internationally recognized ones.
Started in 1994, the Crawl is celebrating its 28th year of making multimedia artist studios accessible to the public. Painters, jewellers, sculptors, furniture makers, weavers, potters, printmakers, photographers, and glassblowers- you’re invited to explore all of their creative spaces! The participating studios are located on Columbia Street, First Ave, Victoria Drive, and Waterfront, with around 80 buildings on the crawl map, and most addresses exhibiting several artists.
There’s a lot to cover in just four days, and this year’s festival is jam-packed with talent, so it’s highly recommended that you look through the festival guide online before you head out.
If you’re still unsure of where to start though, here are just a handful of artists we’re excited to check out!
Rojia Dadashzadeh’s colourful sculpture, painting, drawing, and collage work exudes a natural sense of whimsy and play. Bold colours and soft lines give each piece a nostalgic feeling, of a bygone time when creating was more about exploring the canvas and seeing what discoveries pop up.

A photographer and artist living and working in East Vancouver, Roger Mahler started his drawing as a creative breather from his computer screen. By following a single line across a sheet of paper, he creates a meditative flow of colour that gives a pensive, and relaxed experience.

With an ominous atmosphere, a glowing colour palate and mystical animals that peer into your soul, Megan Majewski has a vision that is truly singular. Drawing inspiration from the shadows in her unconscious, her pieces often explore the fragile balance between life and death, and the mysteries that live in between.

Lydia Cecilia creates blossoming figures and scenes using only clippings from vintage magazines. Placing together just a few found images, her work has a vibrant eloquence that is instantly recognizable.

An internationally shown artist, Michal Tkachenko works with painting, drawing, video, and scale models. With each medium, she tells relatable stories that comment on how we live as a global community.
