Honouring Truth and Reconciliation Day Around Metro Vancouver

On September 30, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (also called Orange Shirt Day). It’s a moment for Canadians across the country to pause and reflect on the mistakes our government and our communities at large have made in disrespecting, dishonouring, and hurting the Indigenous Peoples who first called this land home. While it’s a serious day to acknowledge past wrongs, it’s also a day to look to the future with hope and consider how we can all move forward together in a way that creates room for every one of us, from the Indigenous citizens who have been here since time immemorial, to the newcomers who just arrived today. So in that spirit, this is a list of things to do in our communities on September 30 and throughout the month to listen, show consideration, and engage in meaningful dialogue.

* This list is not meant to be a comprehensive list of events across the Lower Mainland, but a handful of things happening within our participating communities (Vancouver, Burnaby, Whistler, Surrey, Vancouver’s North Shore).
