One of the West Coast’s most notable annual art events is happening soon, and if you’ve never attended before, be sure to make this the year you go! Featuring over 100 galleries and countless local and international artists, Art Vancouver welcomes guests from around the world to experience a curated expo of artists and inspirations.

Despite being held at the convention centre, one of the biggest venues in the city, the vision of the show remains surprisingly focused: a curated roster of participants that emphasizes the impressive variety of expression on display. It’s a wonderful mix of mediums and styles that promotes curiosity among guests and artists alike. One minute you’ll engage with interactive augmented reality work—the next you’re learning about the craft of Middle Eastern pottery.

You can always count on Art Vancouver for an incredible showcase, but if you still need a bit of convincing to attend on April 24 -27, here are a few more reasons you should get your ticket ASAP!

1. Face of Art Runway

This event is a fun and exciting way for artists to showcase their work. Creators walk their art down the runway to engage with audiences and show the person behind the piece. Attendees can then experience the pieces along with the vibrant personalities and stories that bring them to life—the perfect introduction to the show’s opening night.

2. Classes and Workshops

Of course, there’s going to be a chance to express yourself at an art expo! Led by an impressive collection of instructors, the schedule of workshops at Art Vancouver is as wide-ranging as the participating artists. You can start with a simple drawing or acrylic still life class, then expand your practice to include things like linocut printmaking and even mixed media.

3. Art Talks

Listen to art panels headed by creatives on everything from finding inspiration to the business side of their practice. Speakers will take questions from the audience and interview each other about their work and processes. It’s a great way to learn about what goes into each piece.

4. Art Masters

Eight artists, one theme, one hour, and one box of mystery supplies—if you’ve ever seen the cooking show, Iron Chef, then you get the idea. Each artist enters this competition completely blind, not knowing what they’ll be creating or where their inspiration will take them. It’s a fast-paced event that shows the outstanding variety of work that can come when improvising.

5. Collaborative Inspo

If you’re an artist yourself, there’s no better way to stimulate new creativity than chatting with someone else who’s navigating it themselves. In addition to the artists featured at the event, Art Vancouver draws plenty of them in the audience. Walking through the venue, there is a palpable energy in the air. You’ll meet fellow creators, discuss projects, and maybe even find a new collaborator!

So whether you’re an art enthusiast looking to add a bit of colour to your walls or you’re a creative in search of a bit of your next muse, you’ll find all kinds of arty discoveries at Art Vancouver. Check out their schedule of events and stop by the Convention Centre between April 24 – 27!
