July is looking to be a bright month full of inspiring art! Head outside for a wander through the local art scene, and you never know what you might discover. In New West, you can check out air-driven, sound installations that take their inspiration from the rhythm of human breath, while Fort Langley is hosting an annual jazz festival that is sure to move you in more ways than one. Then, in Burnaby, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra will perform an open-air concert in Deer Lake Park! PneumoMachinic, June 9 – August 18
PneumoMachinic (breath machines) is a sound-art exhibition which considers the influence and cultural impact of breath…from the earliest human speech, to installations evoking the ancient music of Peru and Spain. Three artists have created air-driven, sound installations through exceptional research and complex technologies. Their works explore, expand and compress breath; evoking, mechanizing and instrumentalizing it in meaningful flows, beats, currents and code.

Deckchair Cinema, June 27 – August 29
Enjoy classic films under the stars on Cates Deck in front of The Polygon Gallery. Now in its third year, Deckchair Cinema treats audiences to a summer of al fresco film screenings. Hosted for 10 Thursdays beginning June 27, the screenings commence at sunset, and will be complemented by music and entertainment leading up to curtain time.

A Winter’s Tale, July 4-14
Join Bard in the Valley for their annual summer production in Langley this July! This year’s production is A Winter’s Tale written by Shakspeare and adapted and directed by Langley’s own, Dylan Coulter. The play will take place at Township 7 Winery from July 4-14th, Thursdays to Sundays, Starting at 7pm. Come early and enjoy a glass of local crafted wine and take in the beautiful countryside of South Langley.

Khatsahlano! Music + Art Festival, July 6
The West 4th Avenue Khatsahlano Street Party is Vancouver’s largest free music and arts Festival! Created with love in 2011 by the members of the Kitsilano West 4th Avenue Business Association, Khatsahlano, features multiple stages showcasing more than 50 of Vancouver’s top musical performers as well as the eclectic work of local artisans and street performers. This 10-block street fair, spanning from Burrard to MacDonald Street also features a wide variety of food options, bustling patios, giveaways, special activities, and licensed beer gardens!

Create Eastside Arts Festival, July 22 – 28
The 4th annual CREATE! Eastside Arts Festival is a week-long, fun and interactive art-making event this summer, bringing together local artists and the community to explore, learn, and create outdoors in Strathcona Park, a beautiful outdoor space, and in Eastside art studios. Attendees of all ages and abilities will learn how to create visual art such as print making, glass fusing, ceramics and painting, as well as explore performing arts such as Salish singing and story-telling in ticketed workshops taught by Eastside artists in a beautiful outdoor space this summer.

Fort Langley Jazz Festival, July 27-28
Since starting in 2019, The Fort Langley Jazz Fest has quickly become one of the area’s most prominent cultural events. Symphony in the Park, July 15
For over 30 years, Symphony in the Park has been a summer favourite, not only to the residents of Burnaby, but to patrons from the all over the region.
