Gauri Bhrigu

Gauri Bhrigu

With each of her projects, Gauri finds inspiration in life’s smaller moments: sunlight peeking through tree branches, gorgeous pastries, or falling cherry blossoms. Blending elements of illustration, photography, and poetry, she conjures a sense of nostalgic joy with her work, like finding a forgotten note from a friend or an old doodle you meant to come back to.

Jane Appleby

Jane Appleby

An award-winning painter and art instructor, Jane creates pieces that find the poetic music of natural landscapes. “For me, inspiration comes from connecting to the movements of our landscape: whether it’s walking along rippling waters, gliding along mountain tops, or appreciating the play of light within dense forests.” With every brushstroke, she explores the relationship between colours to create depth, movement, repetition and texture. Jane has an incredibly unique artistic vision, so be sure to give her a follow for more on her process and inspiration!

Tomasz Sosnowski

Tomasz Sosnowski

If you’ve ever looked at a piece of art, and thought, “Yeah, I could do that,” you likely weren’t looking at anything by Tomek Sosnowski. The Vancouver-based sculptor and make-up artist creates pieces that are so far beyond our possibility of expression that we willingly admit defeat while appreciating his work. His pieces are steeped in personality, and so fully formed that it’s amazing to think that they were part of any process at all. Inspired by the Gods, Goddesses, and creatures of Slavic folklore and mythology, Tomek painstakingly hand-finishes his clay sculptures into hard-surface cold-cast bronze artworks.

Akemi Emma Ito

Akemi Emma Ito

A self-taught mixed-media illustrator from Japan, the now Vancouver-based artist creates vivid scenes of community and curiosity. Across each of her pieces, there’s a real sense of both familiarity and whimsy, like retracing the steps of an old adventure. It’s a unique balance that Akemi finds with a soft and inviting colour palette.

“My work blends Eastern and Western influences, reflecting my cultural journey. After years away from art, a children’s book-making course at Emily Carr reignited my passion. I often sketch in cafes and around my neighbourhood, capturing everyday moments and scenes. These sketches spark ideas that I later develop into illustrations using pen and ink/gouache, blending observation with imagination.”

Karl Mata Hipol

Combining photography, painting, and textiles, Karl creates pieces that examine how Filipinos have been represented (or excluded) from dominant Canadian narratives.
