At the Vancouver International Film Fest, you can watch new films from around the world before they’re released to a wider audience. With Culture Days in Burnaby, you’ll find all manner of family-friendly art exhibits and workshops. If you’re looking for something a bit more theatric, then grab your best ascot and RSVP to The Great Gatsby Swing Dance Ball, where you can party like it’s 1929. Step back in time and join them for a night of glitz, glamour, and toe-tapping tunes at the Annual Great Gatsby Swing Dance Ball! Immerse yourself in the roaring twenties ambiance with dazzling attire, a dance floor ready for your best moves and live music by an 18 piece jazz band “The Moonliters Big Band”.

Teeny Tiny Art Show, September 18 – October 26

What other show can you return home from with a pocket full of artwork? The Teeny Tiny Art Show is the biggest (and smallest) art exhibit in town! With 200+ original works by 80+ local artists on display, you’d think a show with those numbers would be held in a vaulting warehouse, but with each piece being no bigger than 3″ x 3″, they fit cozily into the Gallery at the Maury Young Arts Centre.

Jagdeep Raina: Ghosts In The Fields, September 21-December 15

This exhibition marks a significant moment in the geographical, cultural, and political landscape in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland. Inspired by archival images and interviews by media artist Craig Berggold and filmmaker Anand Patwardhan, in addition to his own interviews with union organizers, Raina examines the history of the 1970s and 1980s farmworker movements.

35 artists and artisans who live and/or work in the South Surrey and White Rock areas will be
welcoming visitors into their workspaces in a self-guided open studio/art tour. Don’t miss this chance to meet these exceptional artists and artisans and gain a deeper understanding of their methods and what inspires them to create. They will be on location to talk with visitors, and answer questions and, in some cases, you’ll be able to watch them at work. Demonstrations will be taking place at various locations and will include paper art, sculpture, mosaics, watercolours, ceramics and beaded jewellery.
