Emily Carr University of Art + Design hosts its annual Master of Fine Arts summer Thesis Exhibition featuring work from the 2026 cohort of the Interdisciplinary MFA degree candidates. The culmination of two years of intensive artistic research, the exhibition showcases the results of studio-based education and critiques integrated with seminar readings and discussions.
The MFA program comprises an international cohort of artists who work with renowned faculty and distinguished visiting curators, scholars, and artists. This thesis exhibition title These Light-Filled Bodies showcases the varied practices of the MFA class of 2026, with work addressing oral knowledge through transmission; the healing river; Métis floral Tuppies (dog blankets); animacy; optical debris, glares and reflections; obscurity and attunement in the everyday; Nikkei indigo methodology; male/artist/parent; cobalt as a network of entanglement; becoming the material body; and matrilineal influence in contemporary Inuvialuit fashion. These various thesis projects feature beadwork, ceramics, embroidery, painting, installation, photography, textile, video and hand-spun woven forms.
Participating artists: Dakota Burpee, Joshua deGroot, Samantha Dickie, Emilie Fantuz, Julya Hajnoczky, Ariel Kesike Hill, Alysha Johnny-Hawkins, Meredith Jones, Ciara Linteau, Brett Mallon, Carly Nabess, Hitoko Okada and Taalrumiq.
The thesis exhibition and opening reception are held at Emily Carr University’s Michael O’Brian Exhibition Commons and RBC Gallery at 520 East 1st Ave, Vancouver, British Columbia.
Members of the public are invited into the gallery for our public opening reception taking place on July 9, from 5 – 8pm.
The gallery is open to the public during regular opening hours (Monday to Friday 7:30am–11pm, Saturday and Sunday 8am–11pm).
Emily Carr University offers Full and Low Residency interdisciplinary Master of Fine Arts degree as well as the Low Residency MFA: Critical Ecological Practices.
