August is PRIDE month! So what better way to celebrate than to bring together a group of self-taught
artists, that don’t identify as straight, and present an exhibition of selected works that reflect the many
sides of these three artists.

James Fletcher is a self taught sculptor, who at the age of three, experimented with mud; at age six,
discovered the beach and built sand castles; and at age nine mastered the art of creating mashed
potato sculptures at the dinner table.
His works range within a number of styles – from spontaneous surreal and sensual organic forms with
humour to allegorical realistic human figures.

Angela Tahara is  a self-taught artist dedicated to not only constantly improving there techniques,
but the depths of what they need to convey. They began as a sculptor but in 2012 they painted there
first oil and never looked back.
“Confident actualized people are beacons for others to accept themselves, and I, as a artist, have the
ability to spread that further.”

L.J.Throstle is the first artist that Outsiders and Others did an exhibition with in Vancouver in June
2022. LJThrostle is a self-taught artists from the UK. Lucy’s style developed from pen and ink
drawings mixed with acrylics to a more precise method of drawing with emphasis on the many layers
of light and contrast that can be identified in photographic images. In her stencil work Lucy uses rich
background colours to contrast the predominantly monochrome palette of her subjects, more recently
she has begun working with mixed media, and her work has been recognized by the Federation of
Canadian artists in two shows since then. Subjects include people, animals and some still life, all work
is representational and built layer by layer, using single use stencils and acrylic spray paint.
